Cheems is the nickname of Balltze, a Shiba Inu dog from Hong Kong who became an iconic figure in internet memes. Balltze was born on January 9, 2011, and was adopted by a fashion designer named Kathy. The dog’s meme fame began around 2017 when Kathy posted his picture on Instagram, and by 2019 he became widely known in meme culture, especially in the subreddit /dogelore, often associated with the humorous misspelling „Cheemsburger,” a playful twist on „cheeseburger” reflecting his character’s speech style. Cheems is part of the „dogelore,” meme stories featuring various dog characters including the famous Doge.Balltze suffered from several health issues later in life, including pancreatitis and respiratory problems, and unfortunately passed away in August 2023 at the age of 12. His owners held a funeral and received donations for local animal charities. Despite his death, Cheems continues to remain a beloved meme figure online.
